Footie mate!

The MaracanĂ£ for Famengo vs Botafogo. I’ve seen fair few footie matches but I’ve never heard a noise like this - maybe it’s the stadium design (no allocated seats and almost like a huge terrace) maybe it was the rivalry, maybe it was just the South Americans are mental about football, but it was excellent.

Massive shame that Mengo lost, as i had previoyusly been to flamengo house and bought a shirt with a mengo fan, and was pretty up for a flamengo win, but they did score first and it was well loud and well good.

Fast Feet and Feathers

Accidentally bumped in to a massive street parade... stayed there for ages and ages, it was mental. Some rather pretty dancing girls too..

On the trail of JC

Cultural day in the city....
the most ornate, beautiful room I've ever been in. empty, and away from the heat and crowds. next too the Convento de Santo Antonino, the second oldest convent in the city, the Sao Francisco de Pentencia (excuse my lack of accents...)

the New cathedral, a massive concrete cone, opened 1976, spectacularly big. massive thing. almost white in the mid day heat, opposite is an equally massive black glass corporate block, a tribute to the office, reflecting the spiritual back at itself.

JC!!!!

The Whitest Man in Rio

1st proper day... Ipanema beach. had to spack out and sleep for 15 hours the day i got here, got the fat man on the plane you see, and couldn't sleep next to his enormous bulk....

anyway - not got the photos i wanted cos it would have been rude, although I'm not sure that anyone would have minded, but English sensibilities got in the way.. these here brazilians dont mind lettign it hang out, whether fat thin or otherwise. and visual spectacular. i reckon steriods do a swift trade, soem men are massively muscular, and all wear these tiny little shorts. my favourite sight however was a pair of big fat ladies waddling down the beach with tiny thongs hidden under their expansive curves. not a care in the world, and massively feminine. a beautiful sight.
